i was reading the DOTA article over at wiki, and it’s further proof that wiki should never be referenced.

the original DOTA was created for Reign of Chaos. the only popularly played version on Frozen Throne is DOTA Allstars, which is not the original, and should not be mistaken as the original.

…Allstars is the version that made Defense of the Ancients popular.

DOTA already had a huge fan base before Allstars was even created. the original DOTA, created by Eul, was popular enough for players to demand a Frozen Throne version. Allstars is basically the FT clone of the the ROC game that just happens to be the only alternative on the WC3 expansion.

i know what it seems like, but i honestly have nothing against Allstars. It just bothers me when people forget that the real DOTA was created by Eul on Reign of Chaos because he felt that the game was better suited for ROC than FT. back then, the game was basically a capture the flag type of custom game that required players to use team work and strategy or die. Allstars requires team work as well, but it’s more of a hero-killing arena type of custom game.

basically, DOTA is chess while Allstars is Checkers, and it should not be forgotten which one came first. Posted 3 years ago with 0 notes
