i found a cool page talking about how to embed an audio player into tumblr pages, and decided to try making one. an hour later i found out that it wasn’t as cool an idea as the page made it seem, so i went in a completely different direction and ended up building good night, outer space instead.

the page is powered by tumblr, and the player is a product of last.fm, a site that i am in a love-hate relationship with. for those unfamiliar with it, last.fm is basically a music related social networking site that allows you to listen to music as well as network with the many other users. the downside is that you’re limited in what you can listen to, and all the widgets available to bloggers are sub-par. anyways, it’s currently the only option i have, so i went with it.

it’s nothing fancy, and i’m not pleased with the player’s current position, but i’m sleepy, so i’ll shift it around again tomorrow. oh, and if you’re wondering why the site is titled “good night, outer space,” it’s because i used “gnos,” or “song,” backwards for the site’s URL. then i brought up the idea of making GNOS into an acronym, and valkie came up with “good night, outer space.”

i’m changing around my Tumblr format.

Griddle was alright, but i wanted something with a little more personality, which means sticking my own hand in the HTML/CSS pot.

the current background image is work by cloning over at DA, and this current theme is my Frankenstein work of an AW layout.

I AM ME!!!

Nah I’m just kidding. My name is Kenji, born in Maryland and raised in the suburbs of Washington DC, Fairfax VA. I graduated from high school in 2003, and should’ve graduated college 2007, but as we all know, things don’t necessarily go as we all expect things to.

After high school i started the “NoVA” plan; which means I entered Northern Virginia Community College with hopes of getting a high enough GPA to transfer out to a better school. The problem with the NoVA plan though, is that not a lot of people actually make it through the first year. Such as myself. A few semesters at NoVA and I felt as if I would never make it out of there. I don’t know how many people would agree or disagree with me, but I felt NVCC was a place where enthusiastic plans for a better future go to die.

I eventually just stopped attending classes because I couldn’t find parking. (I wish this was a joke, but it’s not.)

After about a year of play and a lot of worry from my family, It was suggested to me that I stop my reckless lifestyle and go to Japan to straighten up. I love Japan, and I especially love Okinawa, the island of my ancestors, so I took the deal and moved Okinawa over three years ago. Once I got here I studied for a bit at UMUC, a college on an American military base in Okinawa, but after finding out about Ryukyu University’s Japanese program, I took a break from my bach degree program and decided to study Japanese at Ryukyu University.

And now, two and a half years later, I am back at UMUC; working towards a bachelors degree in information technology.

My hobbies:
・I love playing the sanshin, a three stringed “banjo” like instrument; the backbone of all traditional Okinawan music.
・If I’m not busy, then I am usually gaming on my Wii, PS2, DS or computer.
・Fixing and building things. I enjoy working with my hands, and I’ve probably made thousands of origami figures and modules.
・Even though I’m not a brilliant photographitaker, photography is also one of my passions.

the next few articles here will be reposts of certain entries that i originally posted to my wordpress blog. since i’ve immediately fallen in love with tumblr, i see no need to keep my secondary blog alive, and will therefore promptly kill it. :)
