» Cheap domains!

GoDaddy.com had a ridiculously amazing sale on domain names. For a one year subscription, you could purchase any .com/.org/.net/.mobi for only 99 cents!

So I went ahead and I grabbed up a domain for my blog, which you can now find at gokenji.net

I’m not sure if the campaign is still going, but you’re welcome to try. The coupon code is: 99DOMAIN.

Lately I’ve been pretty busy setting up different sites, mostly for myself. I mentioned my sanshin site several times already, and I’m pretty proud of it as I think it’ll be useful to a lot of people. In fact, I’m so proud of it that I plan to buy a domain name for it as soon as I can. I’ll probably buy a domain with godaddy.com, but namecheap.com also works nicely, which is where I bought this domain for my friend’s upstarting organization: http://oices.org

The OICES site itself still needs a lot of work, but at least the groundwork has been laid. I hope this will make communication between the organization and the community easier.

I used to run a personal blog-slash-sanshin site at Chikuten.com, but because of some miscommunication with my web host, I had no choice but to close it down. Then I received an e-mail from one of my visitors asking if the site would ever be restored. Granted, this was not the first message I received asking about the site, but because I had overslept and missed work, I had a full day of nothing to do.

And thus, a Simple Sanshin Source was born.

Flickr is great, and up until now I thought that the only limitation on free Flickr accounts was the 100MB upload limit per month and three-limit sets, but apparently you are also limited to 200 photos an account. I wish all I had were 200 photos, but I’ve got more than that ready to be interneted. Sure, it’s only $25 a year for a pro account, but I barely have enough money to pay for school, rent and utilities.

Luckily my birthday is nearing! Okay, so not for another two and a half months, but you can go ahead and get me this if you’re feeling generous :P

» firefox 3.1beta is friggin fast.

seriously, why use anything else?

after testing out the new beta, the first thing that hits you is the noticeable speed difference. it’s really fast. and because i don’t feel like summing up what the other sites are saying, i’ll just quote this tidbit from TGDaily.

The first public beta of Firefox 3.1 offers a handful of new features such as a 3D preview during tab switching, location awareness, better compliance with web standards and much improved JavaScript performance. Additional features planned for the beta 2 include a new privacy browsing mode, an Opera-like Speed Dial feature, improved private data deletion and URL bar tweaks.
・chrome was fun, but it’s featureless, and like a lot of Google’s products, forever in beta.

・IE is old news and will forever remain a dinosaur in the browser world.

・safari is meh for me, and i’ve never used opera.

anyways, for those of you who are reluctant to switch over because of add-on compatibility, there is one way to get around that.

1. open up Firefox 3.1b and type “about:config” into the address bar
2. right click and select New>Boolean
3. enter “extensions.checkCompatibility” for the preference name
4. set it to false

this will allow you to use most of your 3.0 add-ons.

i found a cool page talking about how to embed an audio player into tumblr pages, and decided to try making one. an hour later i found out that it wasn’t as cool an idea as the page made it seem, so i went in a completely different direction and ended up building good night, outer space instead.

the page is powered by tumblr, and the player is a product of last.fm, a site that i am in a love-hate relationship with. for those unfamiliar with it, last.fm is basically a music related social networking site that allows you to listen to music as well as network with the many other users. the downside is that you’re limited in what you can listen to, and all the widgets available to bloggers are sub-par. anyways, it’s currently the only option i have, so i went with it.

it’s nothing fancy, and i’m not pleased with the player’s current position, but i’m sleepy, so i’ll shift it around again tomorrow. oh, and if you’re wondering why the site is titled “good night, outer space,” it’s because i used “gnos,” or “song,” backwards for the site’s URL. then i brought up the idea of making GNOS into an acronym, and [info]valkie came up with “good night, outer space.”

the game itself was released a few weeks ago, but i hadn’t seen the ad until today.

Wario Land: Shake It!

you should maximize the browser window to get the full effects of its awesomeness. XD

http://xkcd.com/

these comics are about as overrated as Dane Cook. XKCD is just not funny. sure, it has its moments every once in a while, but that’s not enough to make up for the pile of crap that’s been dished out.

that being said, i’d like to request interneters to stop digging XKCD comics. enough is enough.

(just some links i would rather put here than on my sidebar.)

JavaScript, CSS, and tab loading to name a few—various speed tests show that Firefox and Chrome come very close in most aspects, but just looking at charts and graphs doesn’t really do it for me. i’m the kind of person who needs to touch and feel in order to see if it really fits me, so starting from several hours ago, i’m going to be using Chrome for the time being in a very non-official see-if-it-fits-for-me type test..

not really sure what tumblr is, but i think i’ll figure it out as i go along.
